It's not very wise to sneak up on a dragon, especially one who is (or was) sleeping. You may have caught Alavarryn off-guard in his padded attire, but it seems he doesn't mind too much today. In fact, his stance seems to be intentional, with his padding being on full display and what-not. You weren't expecting this kind of reaction from him, were you?
