Remember having a boss meeting like this! Poor dog.
"It just tells me how green you still are.
A Revenant can't go AWOL – he can only go AWOOOOL."
I've always thought Max as a bit small for a wolf in your style,
and lacking the regimented wolfish cheek fluff,
but in this exchange, he does look more imposing.
And it is has only just occurred to me that he may be
an African wolf, who look like a middle ground between
the more popular northern wolves and jackals,
and are also much better adapted for arid climate,
including the smooth cheeks.
And that's a nice piece of art behind Max.
Part of the car chop shop cover, I understand,
but still amusing!

We've all been there!
🐺: AWOOOOOOOOL
Yeah he doesn't have quite the build of a wolf, and that's partly inertia from previous versions of the character, where he was always quite lithe. Plus I lean towards more "realistic" proportions in this story. As much as I like designs where animal size translates to their build in other media like Zootopia and Beastars ( and a lesser extent, Blacksad), I didn't want to wrap my story and setting around so many changes to the world, where this setting is meant to be a 1:1 to what the reader already knows.
But I do like to play into his more menacing nature as an apex predator in the cast.
Plus canonically, Max's background does dictate that "average human male" who passes military requirements...
