Years ago when he was young, before he came to Oseille and before the world started to change, Fiachra had another sister. Aoife was his twin and looking at her was as good at looking into a mirror. Except she was always more daring and, at four years old, she was still certain of her own immortality. She ranged further from their mother's house than he ever dared and she never wanted to hide when raiders or foxes came by.
Sometimes, Fiachra is still started awake by the sound of his sister's laughter ringing in his ears. Then he takes out the locket-a gift for Aoife's fourth birthday-and he renews his old vow to protect his family, and all those he loves, in her memory. Its been twenty-one years since she died, and Fiachra is the only one in the world who still remembers his sister or knows where she's buried, but he is determined she won't be lost.
Kind of a cliched story, I know, but I'm working on it. It's quite a departure from the sort of things I've been putting Fiachra in, too, but I wanted to start exploring more of his actual life and how it shaped him.

She did a fantastic job of capturing the mood I was after, and on just a very brief description, too. I was very impressed when I saw her original post! I'm glad you like the story I wrote for it, too. There isn't anything else written yet, and I'm still kind of working Fiachra's past out. But there certainly will be more to come at some point in the future, and fairly soon with any luck. After that little story I wrote a few days ago I've really been wanting to go back and explore that time in his history.
Thanks. It's an idea I've wanted to get drawn for quite a while now, and
auroraborealia did a beautiful job with it. Fiachra is one of my favorite characters, and possibly the most successful male character I've ever created. In terms of character development, I mean.

Such a beautiful picture and it sounds like a beautiful story...
I wouldn't worry about it sounding cliched. A story like this can go a million different ways. And each one of those ways can open up more doorways to an amazing story. I'm not sure if it has been written yet or not...but I'd love to read it....

Oh, that's very nice indeed. I know I keep mentioning expressions and emotions when I compliment a picture, but I love pics that have something to hold the viewer in those elements, and this one certainly does that. Fiachra's face is a lot more complex than it looks at first glance; it would be very interesting to find out what happened to Aiofe, despite the obvious sadness.
