More art from 2013! This time a proper reference for Jack Fenisk, tactics specialist at the SSTF, and his foglizard shift form. Fenisk is a cool guy, and I rambled more about him here! I still like his foglizard form here a lot! actually here, I'll paste my rambling:
This would be Jack Fenisk, a shapeshifter who works as the combat/tactics trainer for the SSTF (Spectrum Security Task Force). I'd say he's probably somewhere in his 40's, and his main shift-form is a foglizard - these large, dragon-like beasts are solitary creatures that inhabit rocky areas and forests in high altitudes, and are best known for the fog-like mist trailing from the tips of their tails. The red chest stripes are NOT normal coloration; it's just something Fenisk does to mimic his uniform and distinguish himself as a 'friendly' when out in field situations.
Fenisk is seen as tough on his trainees; despite this he’s actually a fairly friendly guy, just not in the overly outgoing or boisterous kind of way- but he also doesn’t put up with much ‘sass’, and his first and foremost priority is making sure his rookies succeed. Quite level-headed, especially in a fight or serious situation; trained in a variety of fighting styles he is very tactical and observant, and gauges opponents carefully before jumping into the fray. He has a subtle sense of humor that can occasionally make it difficult to tell whether he’s joking or not, and he is absolutely the kind of guy who’d happily greet his trainees off-the-clock with a clap on the shoulder, remark how nice that lunch of theirs was looking, and then tell them with a grin that he’d have them running laps later to burn it off. Whether he actually means it is a mystery, but most trainees would rather not take the chance.
Jack Fenisk is actually incredibly invaluable to the SSTF. Not only is he very good at what he does (training aside, he’s also sometimes in the field to help out), but in addition to being able to train and spar using normal fighting techniques he can also give the trainees ‘real world experience’ dealing with some of the more dangerous non-human threats they might confront. As a shifter, he can actually train them in fighting scenarios against various beasts; not only that, but he can demonstrate the difference between ‘fighting just an animal’ and ‘fighting something that’s smart enough to strategize against you’ and /how/ to recognize which they’re dealing with.
Sometimes referred to as 'Foggy Fenisk' behind his back, which is not advisable as he doesn't care for it at all and will definitely make you run extra laps.
He's absolutely become more of a smartass over time, though still in that wry and casual kind of way. He's genuinely a good guy (I feel like it's important to note, though the SSTF does handle security, they're not cops- and his motto generally seems to be as long as nobody's trying to eat eachother he is way less concerned what anyone's doing. He's the kind of guy who puts his morals before the rules, and his judgement is usually pretty spot on- he's the type that if he saw somebody shoplifting would be more likely to, depending on context, make it none of his business or ask if they need a hand at the register.) He has absolutely 'hired' Jawz as a consultant to harass his rookies and give them a bit of enrichment by leading them on a wild goose chase, and he's absolutely worn a Neko Atsume kigu to the company halloween party, because he's comfortable in himself and doesn't give a rat's ass about what anyone else thinks.
Additionally, he and Julian get along great, by which I mean he absolutely doesn't approve of the man taking security matters into his own hands and gets in his way as much as he can. He's unphased and casually irreverent, and has a way of riling Julian up- to the point where Julian has in fact taken a swing at him in the distant past (big mistake) and Fenisk has nearly effortlessly grabbed his arm, twisted it round his back, and given him a pointed little 'Careful princess, we're not on the same skill level. Wouldn't want you to get hurt if we spar.'
Has also walked over when Julian has been trying to use the company gym to, with subtle and wry amusement, stand over him while lifting weights and 'Need somebody to spot you?' to which the answer was, 'Get bent.' ('Charming as always, Julian.')
Also, the Neko Atsume kigu incident? Company halloween party. Julian came over to make fun of him for wearing it, ('What are those, your fucking pajamas? You look ridiculous.') and Fenisk shut him down instantaneously by casually taking a sip of his drink and, not even bothering to look up, 'And yet, people respect me.'
