You can't just set up shop anywhere and expect to get good shots. Gotta anticipate where they're going to land and set up so you can frame and compose the shot a bit. I love the balance and lean going on here, bird leaning forwards and the tree leaning back.

Yar, with the old 500mm. The other lens I was happily surprised to get decent focus with. NOT good enough for print though. However... Just got my b-day present to myself yesterday!
The minus: I thought that given that it's for photography, the fine focus would be a bit more um, coarse, in that you're still doing small touchy adjustments at long range. Still difficult to focus. Mirror lens means no aperture control.
The plus: When it is in focus, it's sharp! It's mine, not borrowed. It's f:6.3, not f:8. It's super light and easy to use. (Honestly, the Tamron is a brick!)
All in all, it's a good tool for the money and I know, not think, that it's a good investment, a great lens for the stuff I do (or want to do).
