A couple things.
firstly the castle itself. It's so close to the color of the sky that what you're implying is that it's hundreds of miles tall, and hundreds of miles away. The effect you're going for can be read about here

and the photo in the article is a great reference for how this works. The effect is multiplied by increased humidity, as well. More crap in the air, more light scattering.
Also, shen doesn't own this style. In fact, nobody owns any style, but there are noteworthy users on fa that do it much better, like hidden_mudkip or ArgonVile. Crediting shen with a particular style just leaves a bad taste in my mouth :\
SO WHAT I RECOMMEND is to go and find some awesome oekaki boards, and some landscapes, and stick them together with your artbrains, and focus on working on that :3 Also those swooping roads are very cartoony, and made me smile :3
