Backstory
On GST 0888 221 on the planet of Cotheul, Andrik and Inna Derk happily watched as their new child hatched from their egg. Identifying them as a boy, Andrik Derk named their new child after himself, Andrik Junior. Their father was ecstatic with having a son in the family, one who he hoped could eventually inherit the family farm.
For the first three decades of Junior’s childhood, they learned how to maintain the family farm, but Junior wanted more than to just live on a rainy gray farm for the rest of their life. After enough convincing (and a couple good harvests from the farm) Junior was able to let their father let them go to public schooling. There they’d discover they had a passion for learning everything and anything they could get their hands on. This passion led to them becoming the top of their class, this got the attention of the prestigious Golden Dragon University, who offered them a scholarship to move to Terrina to get a formal degree, which Junior promptly accepted.
During their last year on Cotheul, before they were to head to the Human homeworld of Terrina, Junior and their two friends got ear piercings to remember each other, since they wouldn’t be joining Junior in going off world. When Junior returned home, their father was enraged by the “feminine” ear piercings that Junior had gotten and in that rage, ripped one out before Junior reluctantly gave up the other piercing after he threatened to not allow Junior to go to Golden Dragon University.
In GST 0926 Junior would leave Cotheul as they were taken to Golden Dragon University, where they’d live for the next six years. Away from their father, Junior cut their ears around where the piercings were previously, to make them match, and be a better memory of their friends, rather than the one ripped section of an ear and a hole.
Junior felt like an outcast at Golden Dragon University, being their first non-Human student lead to GDU treating them more as a publicity stunt than an actual student, and Junior hated it. But eventually things quieted down as news became old. Another first year student, named Roland Hearthsol Yong, would soon become their best friend. Roland wasn’t like most of his peers, as he too didn’t come from a rich background, rather he was only able to afford going to the college after the company he had worked for (PennyPike) offered to pay for him to train to become a spaceship captain. Junior and Roland did everything together, one of their best memories was when Roland gifted Junior a new AppD for their hatchday after Junior’s previous one broke; Junior would remember that as one of their best hatchdays they had ever had, since hatchdays weren’t really celebrated on their homeworld.
In GST 0929 after having been exposed to information their father and previous schools had kept hidden from them, Junior realized that she was trans, something her home nation, Anivia, seemingly acted like it didn’t exist. When she came out to Roland, she was beyond relieved to see that he was accepting of her new identity, as she felt fearful that after how her father acted, she might’ve been left with nobody after this revelation. At the start of GST 0930 classes, she officially had her name changed to Eileen.
By her sixth, and final, year in GDU, she was within the top one percent of students, though as the number of days until she had to return to her homeworld slowly ticked down, she worried what her parents and friends would think about her when she returned. But it would seem that would prove to not be the only stress-inducing thing her near future had in store for her.
