Princess Annalise walked along the hallway where both sides were lined up with portraits of women, all wearing different century garments from the 13th century up to the current... all seemingly going in chronological order. "Who are these women?" She murmured as she walked towards the end of the hallway. Suddenly her feet stopped, almost like she locked in place. Her hand trembled as she held the candelabra, staring wide-eyed at one particular portrait. It was newer compared the all the others, not as dusty and not faded.
"Kitty..." she whispered in horror. "Oh Kitty..." It was her best friend who had stopped replying to her letters. The princess had wondered what had happened to her... and now... she knew that her friend was no longer on this earth. She had a sinking feeling that she knew who all these women were supposed to be. Reluctantly, her eyes moved to the right to the last portrait that hung next to Kitty's and the candelabra clattered to the floor. The flames went out casting the hallway into darkness.
The final portrait was of her.
