FINALLY. *fans self* This is my melanistic lion, Nue. Finished his ref sheet early this morning I did. -.o Anyway, here's the skinny on this lovely~

History:
Born in captivity to melanistic (black) parents, Nue has hated humans from the start. His birth, like many other cubs at the breeding facility, was for the purpose of purchase in the exotic pet trade. At a young age he was sold to a rich Indian man to be a pet for show. Nue grew up on the rich man's estate in an open enclosure with other show game. He was given live prey to hunt, and learned quickly on his own. Nue grew into a powerful adult, fearsome and hateful. He loathed the man that kept him, and vowed to have his revenge once he escaped.

During a party in which the man had Nue's mane decorated with silver clasps, braids, and red ribbon (while sedated), when he came to, Nue attacked. His owner was brutally mauled and died in Nue's jaws. And he fled. However, he did not get far and was captured. The authorities wanted to have him exterminated, but the wildlife protection authorities had Nue removed and sent to a sanctuary. He spent three years in the Indian sanctuary before being transported to one in Africa. It was there during his transport and release that he broke out and fled into the grasslands far beyond the reach of humans. After a time of traveling alone, he met up with a rouge lion named, Frer. Since then the two have traveled together as brothers.
