For some reason it's really easy to draw Ran's face derpy, maybe he duckmouths too much, but that's just his race. Also, I can see myself getting tired of that body hair drawing hahaha. Excuse me, I am tired.
And I feel like spamming more character detail speculation.
Name: Ran (Aziz was also suggested by Aziza >:) maybe for a last name or something...)
Likes: Soap.
Dislikes: Petty people.
Mage powers: Conjuration/vanishing of items and such manipulation of matter, teleportation (usually of self). Enjoys a very expansive consciousness. He is effectively invulnerable because his body is only a small part of his whole being and he can reform it from his spirit.
Limits: He does not seem able to (or willing) to use magic directly on other people, it is possible that the innate magic* even in regular humans prevents it, or he fears 'breaking' them. Mages do not show this care towards each other.
Personality: Ran is a bit of a snob but does not realize this himself. He thinks himself above those who can't think of others than themselves. He is of a rather melancholic disposition and can seem outwards cynical and effective, but he is at peace on the inside and feels a deep compassion and respect for all humans** unless they are petty. He doesn't sleep much and can seem cranky. He is somewhat vain and effeminate.
Material wealth in itself has no meaning to Ran (he can conjure money***) but he will often value objects for the hard work put into them, he values human effort. He values to have affected others. He seems determined to help the world where he can, but his work takes priority.
He often keeps quiet about his opinion, but he has a poor pokerface and will (oddly) put his fingers between his teeth or otherwise fumble his face when having to lie or think hard. He will speak freely with several people close to him, including some mage acquaintances.
Physique: I wasn't sure how beefy to make Ran, I know he will help with the harvest etc., and does yoga, but that doesn't mean he has daily chances to haul stuff around. I do however want to emphasize him as a strong, healthy man who enjoys his body and takes care of it. He isn't gonna have a sixpack and I'm gonna try to get some natural musculature here.
Bio: Ran has spent most his life studying. Quite late, he discovered there were other things in life, but realized he could both live a little and be a serious mage. Through meditation, he gained the astral spirit he named Sofia, she is as loving as he is cynical. He is now a mixture of those two. Despite his feelings of being at one with the universe, he still gets physically lonely now and then (sex was/is just physical for him) - but his old lovers find such mortal entertainment too distracting or irrelevant now.
Current life: While he can just keep his body alive with magic, Ran prefers to eat, poop, sleep and fuck because he feels he lives more in his body that way, and he is indeed in better "contact" with it.
His work is paid for by the king and consists of historical and related research, and astronomy. He helps out locally as a healer and supplies herbs and salves, also to some monks (of unknown religion) that normally treat the sick. He has a sizeable orchard of orange trees. He lives on the outskirts of some town. He does not like the local governor much but hides his opinion of him (he often asks Ran for advice as he is seen as the local wiseguy).
He enjoys some protection in society because people don't really know what it is mages do, what they are, and they don't nose around in it.
Relations to other mages: Mages seem to be very competitive and stick a lot to themselves. Ran mostly seeks the advice of his old teacher and sometimes her mate (Vila), as well as 1-2 other mages he later met. They speak very freely among each other and often keep a mocking tone.
*) in Ran's world, all humans (and possibly some smart animals) have a connection to a spirit plane and are somewhat magical. No special talents are required (but I'm sure they exist). Through meditation a person can increase their contact to this spirit world, but to actually begin to use magic, the mages have gone through a spirit binding ritual.
**) In our perspective: Interestingly, despite this, he does keep some slaves. It's quite common and he likely has not even thought twice about it. He does not mistreat anyone on his staff (I'm not sure how large exactly his household is), but shares the public feeling that slaves are not as valuable people as free people are.
***) he understands economics enough to not do this.
Did I forget anything? JUST ASK. Well, it's 3 in the morning and this took me an hour to type. Drawing is kind of a WIP chunk of a whole body thing.
