Wandering past a forest grove
a dragon approaches a pond.
Habit grips her mind once more
as she wonders what's beyond.
Sinking into the murky waters,
she lies upon her back.
Fur and mud blend together
and sticks begin to crack.
Deeper, deeper, down she goes-
her weight pushing down unopposed-
this time, she swears, she'll really do it-
and stop this once and for all.
But then, in her stillness- despite her illness
she wakes up to wings around her
Fluttering feathers on claw and fur
and her heart begins to stir
Maybe, just maybe, this isn't so bad
it's a little different than before.
To see the little birds coo and preen
she begins to breath once more.
