Here I've designed Ares, the Olympian god of war, as an anthropomorphic wolf. Anthropomorphic wild boars were not available.
Mythology (as I know it)
Ares was born the son of Zeus and Hera. His other siblings were Hephaestus (the god of fire and blacksmithing; some versions say he is merely Hera's son), Hebe (the goddess of youth), and Eileithyia (the goddess of childbirth).
Even as a child, Ares showed a willingness to fight and a penchant for brutality.
As an adult, he became a model warrior and the god of war.
However, because of his bloodthirstiness, he was not particularly appreciated by the other gods.
In wars between humans, Ares did not support one side because they were more just, honorable, or brave, but rather the side that was the most violent and brutal.
He usually helped those who worshipped and honored him.
Zeus would have expelled Ares from Olympus if he hadn't been the son of his wife, Hera. Zeus didn't feel much love for his son Ares, who preferred only discord, conflict, and war.
Ares's divine followers included Eris (goddess of discord) and her children Ponos (toil), Lethe (forgetfulness), Limos (hunger), and Algea (pain).
His half-sister Athena (goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare) was the only one who could match Ares.
Ares's divine lover was Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, who was once married to Hephaestus.
Once, Ares assigned the young Alectryon to stand guard at the door when he had an illicit affair with Aphrodite. However, Alectryon fell asleep, and Helios, the sun, surprised them both the next morning. As punishment, Ares transformed Alectryon into a rooster so that he would never forget to announce the sunrise again.
With Aphrodite, Ares fathered the children Phobos (the god of fear), Deimos (the god of terror), and Harmonia (goddess of concord, who became the wife of Cadmus, the founder and first king of Thebes). Eros, the bow-and-arrow-wielding god of love, is also considered the son of Ares and Aphrodite in some versions.
When Ares learned that his divine lover, Aphrodite, had chosen the mortal Adonis as her lover, Ares was seized by jealousy and rage. Ares transformed himself into a wild boar and killed Adonis. Aphrodite, inconsolable over Adonis's death, caused flowers to grow from his shed blood, which became known as roses.
The warlike Amazons, who also settled near Thrace, were associated with Ares as their progenitor.
When the cunning Sisyphus captured Thanatos (Death personified), preventing anyone from dying, Ares was ready to find him. With Death's disappearance, soldiers would no longer die on the battlefield, and wars without death would be completely pointless. Thus, Ares found and freed Thanatos from his chains, allowing Death to return.
Later, the Romans equated Ares with their own god of war, Mars. However, Mars was held in higher esteem by the Romans than Ares was by the Greeks.
