The gyroscopic fin stabilizes the dart as it flies, allowing it to go far. It explodes on impact with a target, whether soft or hard. It has a thirty-foot safety to prevent soldiers from blowing themselves up. And it's gas-propelled, but it has a small charge set in the base that essentially acts the same way as a brass cartridge but with volatile gas replacing the gunpowder.
