This is a fun lil creature I designed as a TTRPG monster:3
It's pretty simple and probably done a buncha times before so I don't want to sound like I think this is the most creative design ever XD I just wanted to have some fun.
It was conceptually a little inspired by Goodra, the pokemon, and design-wise it was a bit inspired by the Puki from Echidna Wars DX and their other games.
I won't bother putting the full stat block or anything cus that's a lot but the concept of this monster is that it deals a lot of its damage by DoT with acidic effects. I wrote this for Pathfinder 2e but it could be easily translated for D&D 5e.
It has a bit of resistance to physical damage types and immunity to acid and poison, but a weakness to electricity.
It has various attacks including a basic slam doing some bludgeoning damage and applying the condition Melt (1), a slick attack which does no physical damage but does some acid damage and also applies Melt 1, an area attack splattering acid that deals some acid damage and Melt 2, and it can do that as a reaction when attacked too. It can grab, swallow, and has a ranged attack where it like spits a globule of acid at a target.
The Melt condition deals 1d6 acid plus the value of the condition (basically equal to the stacks of the status effect. Each time it takes Melt the creature adds the listed number to the stacks they have.). at the start of the creature's turn. If they have Melt 4 or higher the base damage increases to 2d6. After three turns, it reduces by 1 stack after the damage is dealt and then continues to decrease each round this way.
When a creature is swallowed, they are automatically applied with Quick Melt 2, and the globule applies Quick Melt 2 as well. When you get Quick Melt, it overrites Melt, absorbs all of Melt's value (stacks), and increases the base damage dice from D6 to D8. It also resets the duration so you have to wait three turns again.
The gooper is a monstrosity believed to be created by unsanctioned research by a wizard.
It's a strange and interesting creature who's flesh is made up of unique cells capable of transitioning themselves into different functions of the body, making the creature capable of regenerating quickly from damage, even damage that should be fatal, since the colony of cells can redistribute themselves to regenerate damage.
IT is constantly coated in a saliva-like mucus that is also filling it's stomach cavity. This saliva is capable of melting and even digesting organic matter externally from the creature which is very interesting. (not many things can say they can digest food on the *outside* of their body.)
Fun fact, the stomach cavity makes up 85% of its body shape and its brain takes up about 3%. the rest is mostly muscle.
Also, the acid it secretes isn't capable of corrosive melting the way regular acid does, which is a violent, aggressive corrosion. Instead, this acid is actually capable of transformative properties and works to unravel the bonds between cells and molecules, slowly separating them and making them fluid, basically causing organic material to soften and eventually melt like ice cream.
This process is proven to be painless, and even pleasant, as a chemical in the saliva attacks the pleasure centres of the brain. In fact, the saliva could be potentially used in medicine since it actually has numbing properties in small amounts and so with certain extractions and chemical alterations it could be made into a painkiller with effective pain removal properties and only mild euphoric side effects.
So, creatures getting melted by the gooper will just start to feel relaxed, sleepy, happy, lazy, and gradually grow soft and melty without pain, until a time where they will just be completely absorbed by the gooper.
It can ungulate its stomach to increase the breaking down and melting of its food.
While it may seem aggressive, in its simple mental capacities, the gooper is actually highly affectionate and friendly. It's just that by its base instincts, it only knows how to show affection by swallowing, not being able to separate the concepts of love and satiating hunger, enjoying the serotonin it receives either way.
So it's really just trying to show you it loves you by swallowing you.

Oh this is just the most adorable little guy and I sort of want to actually try statting out a few blocks for it. Certain variants possibly having entangling effect in the acids for being sticky come to mind. Extra gelatinous versions being able to just engulf with hugs. Some acids perhaps being extra intoxicating and making a hypnotic effect that encourages you to just approach and give hugs yourself. ~<3
oooh those variants sound interesting and fun. I of course particularly like the hypnotic slime variant XD
