This is a sneak peek of my new story the howling, it follows a young male anthro wolf as he is on a journey to calm his nerves before his marking ceremony in front of the pack. Things might change in the final chapter 1. Ranger is the main character and he was my first fursona, i just needed a name to be put in place first, before I can draw and name a new character, the main character's name will change.
The Howling/ Sneek Peek
Ch 1: The howl of Doubt/ Sneek Peek
Ranger’s heart raced as he stood on the edge of a mountain cliff, his fur blowing in the nipping cold of the wind. Below him, in the valley of the mountain was a vast forest, its beauty as it was untamed and wild, like the blood in his veins. The sun not yet risen, he looked up at the sky, and saw the aurora borealis, as it lit up the pre dawn sky. As he looked up at the wonderful sight of nature he had a thought that had been sticking with him for the past couple of months. Then a howl was heard throughout the valley, it was the chief of his tribe, it echoed off the side of the mountains. With the howl that he had heard he knew the thing that he had been dreading for months was near. The time when he would step into his role as an adult in his tribe. As he is the son of the chief, the other wolf’s of the tribe would be watching him- not just because he will become an adult in there eyes, but as the future of the pack.
Right now he felt like he was not ready
He dug his claws into the rock beneath him, the rock digging into his paws. He had flashbacks, of him and his father out in the woods, where his father taught him about hunting, survival, and tracking. Especially the brutal mountain winters. His father continued to teach him as he was growing up in the ways of making spears and understanding the ancient stories that were told to the pups. No matter how many times he made a spear or heard the stories told by the elders, The thing he worried about and the reason why he was up on the mountain watching the aurora, and that was the ceremony for his adult markings.
Tomorrow, his father the chief of there pack would paint these masks on his fur , a right of passage to adulthood. The marks would become his legacy, the symbols that would define who he is and what he would become. The markings would be placed on him in the middle of the tribe, These symbols and lines would mean something to the tribe and his family but he would not know what they would be or where they would be placed until tonight when he will meat with his father, so he can discuss what the markings mean and where they will go, and also have some time for a father son chat.
A howl cut through the early morning hours when the sun just started to peak over the horizon and he started walking back to his pack to get prepared for the night.
