I haven't been to the beach in quite some time, mostly due to life and expresses getting in the way. But it was a big part of my childhood. I grew up in tough times when my parents did their best to make sure we had what we needed, but the recession hit pretty hard, so there were never any guarantees. Yet somehow they always managed to save up just enough every summer for a weekend at the beach. Those were good times, the one place where everyone could just relax among the sun and surf, far away from worries like bills or putting food on the table. It's just one of those things that make you smile when you think about it. Even in times when you struggle to find something to smile about.
