Part of our 3D modelling project was to create a traction engine from scratch. This made me briefly obsessed with steam engines and I drew up this image of a massive steam punk train. I was going to do it from various orthographic angles with the intention of modelling it in 3d. However, I didn’t really have enough knowledge of what went where on a train and the transport museum was closed for refurbishment. So this is all I managed, from many reference photoes of trains, both real and fictional. Currently it still looks a bit too much like one of the reference images, but that will change eventually, I’m sure. There are also some scale issues - the railings don’t match up with the doors.

Aren't *all* steam engines steampunk by definition?
I mean, every one I've ever been near is coal fired, belches smoke and actual steam, has knobs, levers, and gauges all over the place, and likes to fling blazing hot cinders everywhere.
What is this, a 4-8-6? That *is* a big engine. I like it. The whole Batman / Ironman front cowling is interesting as well as the triple (hextuple? - are there three more on the other side?) flues from the firebox.

Well, i wouldn't say all steam trains are steam punk, because we have them in real life. I think what makes this one steam punk is the compleatly and unneccisary grandiosity of it.
You seem to know much more about trains than I do XD The only bits I really know about are the wheel turning pistons, and even then I only know about the way they move and transfer power (I had to animate these for university) The rest of the trains functionality is guesswork, however. The front of the train was meant to look draconic - I think it could do with considerable lengthening and angularfication to aid in this.
