When I started writing my novel, I realized that I have a soft spot when it comes to tribal anthro characters. And despite the fact that the animal kingdom is huge, I enjoyed scaly creatures the most. I don't know exactly why. I assume it's because the bare scale body is reminiscent (at least for me) of real natives. Furred or feathered creatures lose some of the characteristics that you have perfectly demonstrated. For example: Feathers as part of their simple clothing, which can be seen as a symbol of their natural affiliation. I don't want to say that it's not possible to express the same feeling with something like a tribal wolf. But a lizard-like creature in the jungle strengthens the unity of an exotic, untamed creature in an equally untamed landscape.
I'm impressed by how simple the figure appears at first glance, yet how much attention to detail has gone into it. The scale plates on arms and legs look fantastic, and so do the little pigments. The body painting is another simple but clever way to emphasize the tribal ancestry. I'm glad it's not over the top or too colorful. Instead, it simply serves its purpose.
There are a lot of other things I like about the character and the illustration as a whole. Like the choice of colors. I have rarely seen green and red harmonize so well. Gj! I'd also like to mention little details like the notch in the spearhead, the protruding scales at the tip of the tail, the hint of a convenient blade, concealed in the loincloth. And then there are the small details on the bottom of the spear and on the chest garment that hint at the character's origins as a member of a tribe of other reptiles. Subtle, yet more expressive than a thousand words.
I don't want to spend too many words on the background. With the character, their weapon and their magic in the center of the illustration it is clear where the focus of your craft lies. And this is absolutely perfect. The simple and modest use of palm trees in the background are already more than enough to add more to this feeling of exoticism. Again: Fantastic work!

Thank you very much for your lovely words and especially the amount of feedback! You don't get comments like that every day, where someone is really looking at the work, so I appreciate it a lot! The character in question is from a TTRPG, called The Dark Eye, where the Achaz are this type of tribal lizard people. The person who commissioned it showed me a lot of artwork, so I knew what I was designing. And while I stuck to the ideas, the design in the end is very much my own interpretation of the client's vision. I am very happy to hear, that the design works for other people too ^w^
Writing is what I do. And you absolutely deserve more than just a click on the favorite button for this piece of art.
As I mentioned before, tribal characters like the Achaz thrive on simplicity. Bare skin, body paint, feathers, loin cloth, bone chains… All the good stuff. I prefer not to speak of clothing, but rather of decoration for characters like these. The right accessories in the right place. I am always pleasantly surprised when artists who are not part of this fandom still manage to deliver such excellent, authentic work. Again: Gj!

Since she is my character in said ttrpg, I can tell you the fun thing about the Achaz is that some of them live tribal others in maya style cities. But beneath their feet and also hidden in their djungle and swamps their is a sleeping old empire of multiple differnt scaled creatures wich they once where a part of.
Her spear for example is undistructable since its powered by old magic hidden in the cristal at its back that only few Achaz can peferform during this times, but was common a thousend years ago.
At the point of this story they have to decide for a path of either tribal ways, their old system or a new way influenced by humans, elves and drawfs.
I also love how this picture and their kind look and how they hide much knoledge behinde a simplistic tribal look.

"Sub cultures" with different attitudes and characteristics sound fun. And it only makes sense that cultures deviate from each other due to local circumstances, traditions, and history. It's something I would have liked to cover more in my novel. However, the focus is on “more important” things. That's why I only mentioned it in passing, but I always enjoyed working with such facets.
