This year is a bit different for me art-wise, mainly because I've been trying to get back into the habit of doing fan art like I used to and focusing less on the string of updates that always seems to be featuring Reign. Got me thinking that some must be tired of some of my fan characters, so for now, I've been giving Reign a temporary break and doing more fan art (though I still draw him in random sketches and doodles once in awhile). Feel free to comment if you want, but if you don't want to, that's okay too.
However, in this case with the fan art, I illustrated a character from a series I know next to nothing about. This is Tavros Nitram, a troll from a webcomic series by Andrew Hussie, called Homestuck. Most of my friends are probably unfamiliar with the series and its characters much like I am, but may have seen some fan art of it randomly around dA once in awhile. That's basically what finally got me inspired to drawing Tavros here, just from seeing all the fan art of the series. He in particular caught my eye in part to his design and personality, so he seemed fun enough to draw. What's different about my version of Tavros here is I went about it my own way, and drew him in human form at 18 years old instead of his normal troll form despite the fact I normally have a tough time drawing humans. His clothes are somewhat similar to what he normally wears, just more or less a different color scheme. The only extra things I added/changed around were adding the piercings in his ears, gave him different jeans, customized his sneakers myself, and fooled around with different shirt color schemes. The symbol on his shirt is the Taurus zodiac sign, the sign of the bull. Which makes a lot of sense, considering "Tavros" is the Greek word for "bull", and also appears aside some fairy bull character called "Tinkerbull". I dunno, like I said, I only drew the character so I know next to nothing about the series. Aside from the anatomy, his hair was the hardest part, with all the details and whatnot. Everything else just came together over time though. Find it kind of funny that the day I updated this, the official creator of the series had an update featuring Tavros in it and may be pairing him with another male character who is a friend of his and making it canon, as shown here: http://www.mspaintadventures.com/scratch.php?s=6&p=005886 Needless to say, that was kind of unexpected...so...not sure what's going on there or whatever. As for Tavros' human form ethnicity? Um...I'm not really sure. It doesn't matter.
The background was done after I was done with Tavros. I wasn't sure what to do for him, but Tavros already had the bull theme going for him so I chose a rough, gritty, desert-like theme. Had a lot of fun with the text even though I was wondering what to do with that as well. Got inspiration from AMC's Breaking Bad logo considering that show has a neat desert theme going on. What worked even more for me, is that Tavros' legs (I think; could be wrong) are made of metal in his troll form. The show the logo features deals a lot with chemistry and elements (though not for the very best of reasons, you'll notice if you watch the show which I highly recommend), so just for fun I went to see if Ta is a real element so I could feature it as part of the "Tavros" text...and lo and behold, there is one. It's called Tantalum, and is It is a rare, grey, heavy, hard but ductile, metal with a high melting point. So yeah, it reminded me of the fact Tavros' legs are also made of metal. Also another funny thing Tavros shares with this Tantalum element is the fact that both of their names come from a Greek origin. Tantalum comes from the Greek word "Tanalos" which means father of Niobe in their mythology. Dunno, just some random factoids that helped inspire me to finish this up, so I went with it. Also incorporated the Taurus sign into the text too, just for fun.

Here's an alternate version of Tavros with a nosering; it was just for fun to include that: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/6181920/
Anyways...that's about it. Don't have much else to say, except enjoy or not. :b
