One of the biggest refs I've ever done! From the very beginning, I had to change my way of thinking because the level of detail required a different structure than my usual ref. And thanks to the character description, I came up with an idea of adding birch trees, grass, and mushrooms here and there. Just don't nom those! The design came together right away, quite literally. Despite the abundance of details, everything fell into place the first time around, which makes me incredibly happy! The character shape approval process also went quickly, color, however... we had to spend quite some time on the color. At some point I was stopped from experimenting with color because there were SO many good options. Since both client and I liked many of them, we reached an impasse, ha-ha! But, as you can see, we found balance!
As for the character... oh my GOODNESS, how much I love this character's shape and anatomy. DAMN BOI HE THICC! The anatomy reminded me of an old idea of mine to give Ara the ability to stand and walk freely both on 2 or 4 legs! I spent quite a bit of time tinkering with anatomy and figuring out how to design a 4-legged creature so that it looked natural and we could believe that it could easily stand like a bipedal one. And then there are the tails! This is the first time I've made this kind of structure, and I think it was a success!
I could go on and on about this character and how pleasing it was working on her.
And I cannot stress it enough how amazing it was to work with this client! Despite some rough patches, it was a lovely experience!
