And now for something completely different from my usual uploads! Something I did in, of all things, Mario Paint! Recently this got added to Nintendo Switch Online's SNES line up and honestly, I have been having WAY more fun with it than I thought I would! I mean, I thought at first I was just going to use it to play around and do silly stuff in it given I'm not an actual artists and everything on this page is stuff I've paid other people to do for me and mostly use it as excuse to actually use the mouse function of the Switch 2 Joycons but I actually really enjoyed myself with this program. Normally I don't share the silly little doodles I do on my DA or FA or anywhere else aside from my Bluesky but this is something I was WAY to proud of to not share on all my profiles if I'm being honest.
And also maybe a bit of a slight vent. No, it's not anything super serious, I wasn't feeling depressed or down, I’m feeling perfectly fine on an emotional scale, don’t worry. But this is still something I do feel strongly about. I was born on November 27th 1996. I have lived though basically almost three complete decades at this point an in that time I’ve started looking back on my birth decade and the full decade I lived though A LOT more fondly than I do the 2020's and 2010's. And this isn't me saying that these past two decades have been nothing but garbage, not at all! In fact, normally I try to avoid saying stuff like this because I’m worried it’ll make me come off as a nostalgic boomer who can’t enjoy anything new. Especially since the 2010’s alone gave us Splatoon, Undertale, Indivisible, Minecraft plus the 2020’s having Ghost of Tsushima or Stellar Blade, all games I absolutely love and adore, not to mention how much I love my PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 and how much fun I have on them and will continue to enjoy using them, much to the confusion of everyone who feels the need to be condescending about these two systems at every opportunity. In fact, I also just got off watching K-Pop Demon Hunters a few days ago and honestly enjoyed that movie a lot!
But honestly, look at all the stuff the 90’s and 2000’s had going for them compared to the last decade and a half and tell me they were not better or at least more fun decades and that this little shitpost I made in an old SNES games wasn’t justified!
-Technology, infrastructure and user interfaces all had unique and interesting designs to them that were not afraid to be edgy or cool and just overall felt way more exciting especially with the rise of Y2K and Frutiger Aero design aesthetics compared to the corporate minimalism look we have been stuck with since the mid 2010’s. Even stuff like the Virtual Boy or Gizmondo, for as infamously bad as those systems are, still at least have cool designs that tried to stand out!
-Physical media actually mattered and when you brought a movie or game you got the whole thing on the disk compared to stuff like the Spyro Reignited Trilogy which only had the first game on the disk and the other two had to be downloaded online which sucks for people like me who love the original versions of this trilogy and brought it physically on release day or how some Switch 2 games only give you a download code if you buy it in stores. And don’t even get me started on how streaming services can just remove certain shows, movies or songs.
-The internet, while it did still have some bad apples on it, wasn’t nearly as much of a breading ground for elitism, hostility, toxicity, negativity, cynicism and arguing about the same 5 or 6 topics all the time to the point where it genuinely starts to affect your own enjoyment of a particular medium.
-Not only did we have the PlayStation 2, one of my all time favourite consoles with some amazing games on it, but we also got the Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Wii, DS and PlayStation Portable which I’d argue even with the improvements and enhancements later consoles have given are still some of the best consoles you can play and ones I regularly go back to.
-Kids actually went outside instead of shutting themselves in their rooms being glued to there iPads all day which also had the benefit of lower obesity rates and when kids did watch stuff they watched actual content instead of whatever the hell Skibbid Toilet is meant to be.
-The 2000’s alone also gave us Shantae, Devil May Cry, Bionicle, the Sam Rami Spider-Man movies, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Jimmy Nutron, Phineas and Ferb, Bayonetta if we are going by the original Japanese release date, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, the Ubisoft Prince of Persia trilogy, Kim Possible, Assassin’s Creed, Mirrors Edge, the Batman Arkham series, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Borderlands and some of the best Star Wars games like Knights of the Old Republic, the original Battlefronts and Force Unleased.
-And then the 90’s gave birth to Futurama, NiGHTS, Half Life, The Matrix, Mortal Komabt, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Ed Edd ‘n Eddy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Scream, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Pokemon, Daria, Recess, Stuart Little, Grand Theft Auto, Super Smash Bros, Disney’s Aladdin, Fallout and I haven’t seen Ghost in the Shell yet but considering the Wachowski Sisters have openly admitted they based a lot of The Matrix of that I’m willing to bet I’m also going to love that movie when I do see it.
-Oh and the best part? AI Generated content wasn’t a thing!
Yeah, take me back to either the 90’s or 2000’s! Please! Preferably the 2000’s because I don’t know how long I’d last without sexy half genie waifu or the funni pizza loving half demon man to keep me entertained! Unless you send me to an alternate universe where that cancelled PS1 prototype for Shantae actually happened and someone made a downgraded version of Devil May Cry to run on PS1 or N64 lol.

Hell yeah! Growing up in the late 90s and the early 2000s. We didn't need the internet to have fun. When I was first introduced to the internet, it was a magical place of knowledge and fun Flash games.
And one more thing! CRTs! Those old, bulky TVs and computer monitors. They were also hella durable. And you didn't need HD back then.
Come mid to late 2000s, the phones that fascinated me the most were BlackBerry. I truly miss the clicky keyboards. Phones actually had a lot of character instead of practically looking the same. I got my first phone back in 2011 and it was a BlackBerry!
