A therix subspecies, the Dormant Therix resides around dormant volcanos. Adapted from the Fireside Therix to survive after their volcano habitat has had its last eruption, these therix have some subtle differences.
Firstly, they have grown longer boot fur around the heels and shed their barbed tails to be replaced with furred tips, no longer needing the sharp barb to anchor themselves onto the sides of volcanos. Their tails are also much stronger, the cresent barb growing thicker and shorter to be used for self defence.
Secondly, their horns grow to curve, protecting their skulls, much like helments. This protects them mostly from falling rocks as they feed near the bases of cliffs and in the mouths of cave systems.
They also grow long, thick fur within their ears to procect the sensitive ears from dust. They will obsessively groom and pull out hair from these fluffy parts during mating season, usually due to high stress during the seasons hormonal change.
Their colors also change from deep browns and greys contrasted with bright reds and blues, to more earthy tones in order to blend in with their surroundings. They also develop more tabby-like markings on their shoulders, face, and sometimes hips.
This species is the tallest subspecies of therix. This allows them to focus on reaching, rather than climbing through small crevicas and risk bejng bitten by snakes (therix are very sensitive to venoms).
Their wing feathers have grown longer, usually covering nearly their entire wing membrane during the winter and shedding during the summer. This confirms easily that their main use is for trapping heat and protecting the sensitive blood vessels.
This therix subspecies is the most territorial out of all the therix species, but they still prefer to remain seperated from other species unless it is necessary to interact with them. However, the majority of domestic therix branches from this subspecies.
