Parallax's Pulsed Plasma Projector - Descent
A bit of geeky old school gamer random from me, since I'm looking into fine tuning either Bottles or RunOnLinux to run my old MacPlay Descent six axis of freedom, first person shooter that defined a genera beyond what Wolfenstein and Doom had.
The year is 1995 and Parallax Software has a bonkers hit title that was so out of the box and ground breaking, it supposedly gave some gamers/users motion sickness from game play, and I was loving it!! Granted I got my copy for Apple/Mac about two years late, I was HOOKED!
For context, please see https://youtu.be/4-FHR1MIAxk?t=270
Now my weapon of choice, the plasma projector wasn't available until after Level 7 where the demo.exe for either DOS or Macs ended, but you'll just need to trust me when I say that unlike the quad laser array, or the energy shotgun *aka spread fire* that the plasma cannon was hands down the best energy weapon in the game! Yes I know the ray-cast - hit scan (Vulcan M61) was crazy useful and powerful, ammo for that gun was not as plentiful as recharge stations in every level, so in terms of effectiveness at "Leroy Jenkens" stupidly charging in and "Rip and tear" I would rather chew up my power bar wasting baddies with my preferred Plasma and having to return to the charging coil again and again, than letting the infected shoot back at me... especially the Class One Driller which in it's infected state, is armed with a Vulcan and can hit-scan you from crazy far away! Also said hit-scan Vulcan cannot be dodged easily even at range. So to deal with baddies, I'd almost exclusively use the plasma gun when available, and the location of the charging station is known. Otherwise I'll begrudgingly revert to using my quad lasers until I locate said charging station and conserve energy until I can cut loose and dakka dakka with my mean greens again.
The booklet that came with the CD describes the Plasma cannon as being Very high damage dealt, with High energy usage whereas the quad laser array has Medium to High damage with Low energy consumption, which for spreadsheet warriors suggest the quad laser is the most efficient weapon... efficiency does not equal Power!... and... I like my Dakka so Plasma tickles that spot for me!!
And as a gamer, you'd only respect the raw power of the plasma projector... once it's used on you!
Yeah FUCK YOU class one heavy driller..!!! You can FuCk oFf with your fucking green globs... Only I AM ALLOWED TO PLASMA!!!
Plasma Projector... It's a love-hate thing. xD
Where am I going with this?... 'Member those gif animations I've done kinda recently with archery antics in MapleStory?
Jett the removed character class could fly around in a small spaceship and OWN any particular map in her higher levels... Just a shame she didn't have a dakka stream of plasma to rip and tear with... well Imma give Yuki sum upgraded legally distinct Z6 rotary blasters!
Think MWO RAC-2... but spitting out very high damage green plasma!

Loved this one, and D2's bouncy Phoenix plasma!
I'd generally start out using the OG green plasma after opening doors since there's a chance something was too close and phoenix shots might bounce back at me, but once I could see things are clear, I switch out to the orange chaos and let rip! xD
