Short form: Roquefort is a distant cousin of Fred.
Longer explanation: Several generations ago, a pacifistic, highly intelligent guyena named Pawl Kruger speculated on some land (in his wife's name) that he calculated would have gold deposits on it. He raised the money to purchase the land by forming a cartel. His partners just had to take the name "Kruger" along with their own clan names, thus creating the Clan of Kruger.
They did find gold, and became fabulously wealthy. They parlayed this wealth into even greater fortunes by going into industry, such as manufacturing weapons for the Hyena Brigade.
The Krugers who can trace their bloodline back to Pawl are the chieftains of the clan. Fred is the last Kruger Of The Blood.
The Krugers who descend from the families who joined the cartel and founded the colony are referred to as Hyphenated Krugers, because they appended "-Kruger" to their existing surnames.
There have, of course, been intermarriages between Krugers of the Blood, and Hyphenated Krugers, over the years.
Roquefort is a Hypenated Kruger, being Roquefort Dunning-Kruger. He also has ancestry linked to the Kruger of the Blood matriline.

Roquefort's not my original creation, he came from a short story written by Beau Jackal set in my Carry On universe. He did not appear directly, but was referenced; when I asked Beau if I could use his characters as canon in my comic strip, he named the character "Roquefort" and said he looked a little like Fred, only with darker fur.
It's possible that his family are as into producing quality cheese as Kalua's family is into producing high-end chocolate. It would go far to explain why they were betrothed. Beyond, y'know, "Kruger money."
