‘A bit shorter than usually, but this wood should do nicely,…’
“Yeah, I have the first surfboard I was given, and I can get more on Coconut Island if I need to, I have acouple from there already, but not long after I started surfing I took the time to learn how to make my own surfboards.
It’s not always easy, you have to find just the right wood and careful carve it smooth and into the right shape. Then you have to paint it and ‘seal’ it to make it waterproof, the Islanders help me brew the right wax and paints to do that from materials I find in the jungle. Still, I find the process to be very relaxing, and focusing, and it feels really good when I finish and have created a new surfboard to try out, which is, of course, the really fun part of the process.”
For someone as into surfing as Ember it made sense to me that she’d not only take an interest in taking care of her surfboards, but in time that she’d learn to make new ones for herself as well, as we see here in this latest picture from Usagiforehead. ^^
I really like the peacefulness of this picture and how relaxed and tranquil Ember looks, clearly, she is well focused on her carving and taking great care in it, and looks quite happy to do so. She looks really good overall, I love how big and fluffy her belt flowers look here, and her hair trailing off to the side on the ground behind her. The wood she is carving is very well depicted, I really like it looks like she’s carving off the bark layer as she goes, and the wood gets smoother and more finished the further away from the bark, it gives a great feeling of the slow progress of her crafting. The area around her looks rather nice, a little grassy spot on the edge of both the beach and jungle, seems a perfect place for crafting. All in all a nice relaxed picture for abit of lore building. ^^
What do you think? ^^
