Hench-Gryph - Issue #2: Hench-Off - (1/8)
(Some heavy workouts and weird science have returned Maks more or less to the shape of a dutiful, if pleasingly plump hench-gryphon)
“Another ten inches off my waist, and another inch on my biceps! I'm getting back to being the right kind of scary!”
“Just focus on your center, mannnnn…”
“All thanks to mein new invention, ze Health Ray! All I had to do was invert ze settings on the Death Ray! Genius!”
It looks like all of Maks’ torturous exercise regiment of swollen sit-ups (far more difficult when trying to sit up with the weight of a Fiat hanging off your heaving body), tubby treadmilling (a dangerous pursuit when the tortured treadmill threatens to fall apart under the weight of your fat-footpaws), and stuffed stretches (tutored by the seemingly-mandatory obnoxious hippie at yoga studios), has finally slimmed him down from his former size of “Grade-A, all-consuming butterball” to the much more reasonable, “Fat-bellied, indulgent ex-jock.”
The appetite from Dr. K’s last experiment hasn’t really gone away, so that last bit of belly is here to stay… But he felt like a million bucks compared to where he was at! Now, so long as he can stay out of Dr. K’s waistline destroying schemes for a little while, Maks’ days of being a feathery ball of flab will be nothing but the past…

I’m most pleased to present the follow-up sequence to a delightful commission from last year for my ever-wonderful friend Nickel-Cat_Engine, starring his returning Hench-Gryph and accompanying villainous master, Dr. Klumpfnacht, as well as a new Hench-Gryph on the block, the equally muscular (and equally fattenable) Royce, sidekick to the heroic Fantastic Mighty Fox! The duo’s bosses are feuding something fierce, a feud which can only be resolved with a good ol’ fashioned hench-off… But can our dutiful henchgryphs survive the belt-busting brawl to come? And who will come out on top - and who’ll be blobbed at the bottom? Stay tuned to find out…!
As with the previous sequence, I absolutely adored this idea and had a splendid time working on it! The cel-shading was fun as always, as were all the silly background gags and comicy things that I included throughout. Royce and Maks pair wonderfully together both personality wise and design-wise, especially as their appetites begin to outpace their muscles… I truly hope you all enjoy this sequence, and a tremendous thank you to Nickel-Cat_Engine for commissioning me on this!
