Prudish attitudes towards sexuality and pornography always coincide with a desire to eradicate everything that is outside of the Christian Anglo-Saxon taste. In the newest crusade on pornography and LGBTQ+ rights, and especially the attempts to label the latter as "pornography," groups like Exodus Cry and Collective Shout pressured payment processors like MasterCard and Visa to then strong-arm Steam and itch.io to pull all games containing sexual topics and themes, as well as SFW works with LGBTQ+ content. Additionally, the United Kingdom passed a law requiring all Britons to give their faces and identities to the government so they can access pornography, which is a sheer invasion of privacy. For months, such laws have also been passed across the southern United States. Exodus and Collective Shout would tell you to "think of the children" but anyone who lived through the Satanic Panics of the 1980's and 1990's would know that it's never about the children, but rather, about sanitizing information and entertainment so that no adult can have fun or teach their kids properly.
Thankfully, there's hope. It took only 1,000 signatures for Collective Shout to get things rolling, but there is a Change.org and an ACLU petition going to fight back, and they are amassing 100,000+ signatures each, and growing. Linked below are resources to call or email the payment processors so they can roll back their anti-fun policies, which hurt the livelihoods of anyone who makes art for adults and those who consume it. There are already movements going in the United Kingdom to make the Parliament reconsider their recent step towards *1984* and *V For Vendetta* in real life.
