A villanelle
Indignant, what greater hate
Than that which inflects as it tries to shine,
Forced upon a callous fate.
Borne of hunger long-refused to sate
And made to eat this flesh of ‘mine’,
Indignant, with greater hate.
Toppled atop a broken wake
Left dissect deep in the brine
Forced upon a callous fate.
A glimpse toward a foul make,
Cut-out self and left in rime,
With Indignity, what greater hate.
Trepidation forced a terrible gait.
Singing embers of shredded time,
Forced upon a callous fate.
Folly dodged and reflection abate
Until a mirror meets a glaring eye.
Indignantly, what greater hate.
To convince myself the illusion is fake!
For impatient claws still wait to pry
I’m forced upon a callous fate.
I beat me down and flesh I rake
Cannibalize myself with knives that fly.
I’m Indignant, with greater hate
