I shared the work-in-progress steps in my Telegram channel and asked: “What flower do you think this is?” — only one person guessed it right: opium poppy.
Despite its association with certain substances, it's an incredibly beautiful plant. Historically, it was grown as an agricultural crop — its seeds were used to make oil for salad dressings and cooking, to fuel lamps, and in the production of paint, varnish, and soap.
It used to be widely cultivated in parts of Britain, and the wild plants you sometimes see today are often remnants of those old crops.
