Interestingly, this species of fox is one of the least studied. It inhabits tropical rainforests in the Amazon basin and, despite its wide range, its population is small, and its reproductive capacity is low. Typically, a litter consists of up to four cubs. The species is currently on the preliminary list of those threatened with extinction.
