Delicious marvelous mini corn dogs ot dine on or snack on any time from the kitchens of
xommon
Yum!! Corn dogs! I used to love them before I became a vegetarian. xD I saw a video on YouTube on how to make corn dogs, and I edited the recipe to make them vegetarian; however, you could always use regular hot dogs to make them not-so-vegetarian. Lol. ^^ These are great with ketchup
Recipe:
BEFORE YOU COOK THIS!! Please note: this is a beta recipe, and I probably would have to perfect it. So I need your help! Make this! Tell me how it tastes! Tell me about the texture about the hotdogs or tofu dogs! I made mine with tofu dogs, and felt that the tofu dogs weren't tender enough, and they didn't taste amazing unless I dipped them in ketchup. Maybe it's because I used tofu dogs instead of hot dogs, or maybe I should've heated the tofu dogs in the microwave for a little bit before I cooked them in the oil. I'm sure tofu dogs take a lot longer to cook than cornbread does, and yet they go into the oil and come out of it at the same time.
INGREDIENTS:
Tofu Dogs or Hot Dogs or Mini Hot Dogs
One Large Egg
1/2 Cup Yellow Cornmeal or 1/2 Cup White Cornmeal
1/2 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
1/2 Cup Milk
2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter or 2 Tablespoons Salted Butter
Vegetable Oil or Peanut Oil or Canola Oil
MATERIALS:
One Large Mixing Bowl
An Electric Mixer or a Whisk
Stove Pot for Deep-Frying
Spatula
Papertowels or Napkins
Tongs [Optional]
Toothpicks [Optional]
COOKING:
1 - Get the large mixing bowl and completely beat one large egg in it.
2 - Add the yellow or white cornmeal, all-purpose flour, salt, ground black pepper, and milk into the large mixing bowl with the egg. Mix the ingredients together until dry ingredients are fully incorperated.
3 - Melt the 2 tablespoons of unsalted or salted butter and pour it into the large mixing bowl with the other ingredients. Mix ingredients with a mixer until a smooth batter forms. This is the cornbread mixture.
4 - If you chose to use tofu dogs or hot dogs, then cut each tofu dog link or hot dog link into three equal slices. They should be about the length of a mini corndog. If you chose to use mini hot dogs, then continue to step 5.
5 - Fill the stove pot for deep-frying with vegetable or peanut oil until it is deep enough to submerge an uncooked corndog and turn the heat onto MEDIUM-HIGH or MEDIUM.
6 - Using tongs or your fingers, drip a mini tofu dog or hot dog into the cornbread mixture. Make sure it is completely covered. This is the uncooked corndog. Hold the uncooked corndog over the large mixing bowl with cornbread mixture to let it drip.
7 - Once the uncooked corndog is done dripping, using a spatula, very carefully slide the uncooked corndog into the pot of hot oil. The uncooked corndog should drop to the bottom of the pot and cook.
8 - It should only take a few seconds to a minute for the uncooked corndog to become cooked. You can take them out whenever you the cornbread reaches a desireably state. I like them brownish and crispy, as shown in the picture above.
9 - Take the corndog out IMMEDIATELY using tongs or the spatula and place them onto a plate with papertowels or napkins.
10 - Repeat steps 6 through 9 with every tofu dog or hot dog until you've cooked them all! Leave them onto the plate too cool for a little while. Not too long, since they cool quickly.
11 - They're great with ketchup, and I hear they're pretty good with dipping mustard too! You can use the toothpicks to make them seem more like corndogs! ^-^ Enjoy! :D
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
SPECIAL DIETS- This dish is vegetarian, only if you use tofu dogs, as it contains no meat, fish, or poultry; however, this dish is NOT vegan, as it contains dairy and eggs.
ALLERGIES - This dish contains eggs, wheat, and milk.
COOKING SAFETY - Be careful around hot oil. Hot oil can pop at any time, so never put your face directly over the pot of hot oil. Sometimes when the corndogs go into the oil, the oil pops up. Do not leave cooking equiptment, such as spoons, in the hot oil. Once you are done using the hot oil, leave on a cool burner overnight. Do not dispose of hot oil immediately after use.
