POV: You have gone on a trekking adventure only to find yourself lost in an unfamiliar grassland prairie with a stretch of forest to the left of you. You have been lost for days now, and you are still trying to figure out how to find your way back to civilization, at least you know a thing or two about wilderness survival from different sources, but who knows how far that knowledge will go when helping you.
Out in the distance under a gray overcast sky, you spot something out in the distance. It has got to be a coyote. It was too big to be a fox, and its fur had a clear sandy coloring to it that it couldn’t possibly be anything else. However, upon further inspection, it became more clear that was no ordinary coyote. Its tail was longer and fluffier than the kind of tail coyotes normally have. And perched on the coyote’s back, a pair of leathery wings like a bat or a dragon. You’ve never seen anything quite like this with your own eyes in your entire life, but part of you was still wondering if you were just hallucinating and you were just looking at a normal coyote.
As you look at the strange coyote, it suddenly turns its head looking right toward you. You suddenly feel your heart rate spike up, but you can’t look away, as if the coyote is staring right into your soul through your eyes and you felt compelled by it to be allowed to see.
As both you and the coyote’s eyes are locked together, the clouds of the overcast above start to turn darker, and the sky becomes windier and windier. Then as soon as thunder rumbled far out into the distance, the coyote turned its head to the direction of the thunder, pirouettes to the opposite direction, and then dashes off with its wings stretched out to take to the sky riding on the blowing winds of the oncoming storm. You then realize you have to look for cover yourself.
You notice the patch of forest out in the distance you saw earlier and realized you can find shade from the rain amongst the trees. If the lightning got any closer to you than where it was at now, you’d probably look for more options to prevent getting struck because an unfortunate tree you could be next to could end up being chosen by the storm as one of their lightning rods. As soon as you were at that patch of forest, the rain started coming down, and you were glad to have a mighty oak as your umbrella for the time being.
Still, what an unlikely encounter that was, but did it really happen? Was it your delirious imagination as a result of you struggling for your survival? You could only sit and think as the rain fell down around you. Perhaps that strange coyote is something greater than what glimpses of it you got to see? Perhaps it’s a mystical being with the ability to call storms? Who knows? Maybe you’ll run into it again on your lost misadventure. Although you don’t know if that would actually be a good or bad thing. But one thing is for sure, right now the top priority was to at least survive this stormy evening. So survival always came first before any curiosity. As such, you at least try to keep going on, with that strange prairie beast at the back of your mind.
