Also, I saw an influencer on Instagram say Greenlandic Inuit aren't the "true natives" of Greenland and I can't believe it was a brown person being so pedantic yet so wrong about it. Indigenous is a political, social, historical label, it doesn't just mean "we got here first", it has an academic usage, and Greenlandic Inuit very much meet that usage of Indigenous.
If we want to go the purist (wrong) route witht that word, almost nobody is indigenous to anywhere, making it useless as a word. We use it for a reason, don't act obtuse about it. Indigenous people are those that become colonized, it's about power struggle, opression, erasure, genocide, political institutions, not *just* whoever sat their ass in a piece of land first.
