So in my readings on rabbits, it was stated in more than one book that Chinchillas are in the rabbit family so thats my justification, though looking at one I would second guess that fact. Oh well Much love for Chinchillas and Minccino. X3

And it looks like you've been misleaded, chinchillas are rodents. Lagomorpha is a different order, let alone familly. This is a nifty infographic that should help. Could be outdated books, the DNA analysis has only been done about a decade ago, earlier the clasiffication was mostly based on guesswork by external features and it used to change a lot whenever a new fossil was discovered.

ah ha! through deeper investigation and thanks to you spiking my curiosity it seems that Chinchillas are two different animals with the same name! XD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinchilla_rabbit So that's why they are mentioned in my rabbit books.
