Its something I should probably make a journal on as you're not the first person to comment on it.
But thats just not how drekir work, drekir don't form parental bonds beyond basic care, nor do offspring form familial bonds with their parents. There isn't much love between parents and offspring..
So for Imua its just that she doesn't have the same emotions that a human mother (or herself when she was human) would have towards the egg or the kid. This isn't just a time and place and cultural thing, its just how drekir are towards their offspring.
They are people with plenty of humanity, and they have different parental instincts as they are still a different species of people.
But thats just not how drekir work, drekir don't form parental bonds beyond basic care, nor do offspring form familial bonds with their parents. There isn't much love between parents and offspring..

I feel like to feel its a sad existence would ignore the very real, positive lives that they live. I am sure humans wouldn't understand it but I am also pretty certain they could figure out that folks are living positive lives in their own ways.
Well I guess many won't, human colonials are notoriously bigoted towards drekir, decrying them as half feral savages more often than not. But I feel most or at least many come around to see that the drekir are just living a different, but positive sort of life typically.
