In the AKC there's 2 sizes with 3 coat types in each size. In the FCI, there's 3 sizes, 3 coat types in each, and Dachshunds have a group all to themselves. The group to themselves is likely to be due to people arguing whether they were a terrier or a hound, when they're pretty much both.

But you get groups like that. Within the sighthounds, an Ibizan Hound is pretty much a tri-hound, they use their ears and nose a lot because when there's as much brush around as there is on Ibiza, you can't see crap half the time.
