On the left is my current fursona. On the right is my original one, back when I thought I was a man and that a fursona needed to be a specific real world animal (in this case, a scarlet macaw).

Unfortunately bird HRT isn't real so I'm not literally my fursona, but she's a careful, authentic representation of myself. My original was an attempt, but that connection never existed. Looking at him feels like looking at someone else's character — I like them, but they're not me.

In over a decade he's never been used in any pictures, rps, etc — just a lone ref sheet. But I figure, as a character, he deserves to be in at least one thing. A nice little send off — a ref and a nice pic isn't a bad run for a character, after all.

The generic looking setting was actually modeled after the apartment I was in in college, back when I made him. (The real apartment was even more bland to look at). It was a very lonely time in my life, when I had no friends and struggled with deep depression. This pic is a sort of what-could-have-been/never-could-have-been. What if I could have been my own friend? Been the person I needed to have in my life?

It's a nice thought.
