The day had started off like any other. The big Brachio casually and cheerfully lumbered down the streets of the small district, paying no mind to the tiny folk scurrying around below, weaving in and out of her colossal, stomping feet. She would occasionally stop to wave hello at the tiny folk, though the responses were always mixed. While some were polite enough to return the greeting, or at least wave back, others were either frightened by her sheer enormity, or angry with her for stepping on their car or sideswiping a building or two with her huge hips.
Typically, Bayusha often barely noticed whatever damage she might’ve been causing, or she just didn’t notice at all. She would carry on her way with genuine innocence, the kind of innocence that, to Constantine, was considered too “innocent” to really be innocent, but he never seemed to know for sure.
Speaking of Constantine, such was the point of Bayusha’s travels that day. Everyday when Constantine’s work time was over, she would always head to the Compy’s workplace and be ready to pick him up (literally) and take him home with her. She was proud to be Constantine’s personal courier. Certified couriers like herself usually didn’t give free rides, but for Constantine she would always make an exception. Usually she would already be there waiting for Constantine to exit the building, timing her arrival with Constantine’s off time, but today she was running a little late, due to an extra passenger she needed to take to a warehouse.
Ahead was the destination, “Large and Small Relations Firm”, a specialized insurance company for large scales to receive negotiations or forgiveness for any unintentional property damage they may inevitably cause to small scale areas when traveling through them, with the intention of keeping some sort of peace between the large and the small. It was common for small scales to disproportionately target large scales for causing damage, even if minimal, but large scales could be assigned to small scale agents willing to help them avoid getting financially screwed up for knocking over a car with their tail, or something. The building itself was a tall office building with an even bigger attachment building, the "meeting room", where large scales could enter to meet with the small ones in a safe space (though ironically, Bayusha was bigger than this attachment).
Just as Bayusha served as Constantine’s personal ride, Constantine served as Bayusha’s personal agent, which was necessary since her job involved frequently walking through the small areas, as well as being assigned to the rest of their group, as Stefka had a special waver that allowed her to cause damage for “marketing reasons” related to her wrestling gig, and Abequa had qualified for a permit to cross those areas. Sherazade didn’t, however, but typically accompanied Abequa, which was allowed. The outlier, though, was Pomeline, who had neither a permit nor a special waver of any sort, making it harder for Constantine to grant her forgiveness (though he still had his ways).
Bayusha couldn’t wait to hoist her little biter up onto her snout and talk about their day together. She always enjoyed hearing about the absurdities he typically had to face in such a duty. It was always a breather after a work days work. Today, especially, curiosity was at a peak, as she remembered something Constantine had mentioned earlier that morning: “We’ve gotten a lot of complaints after Pom’s little romp through the city, so I’m still sorting all of that out. Wish me luck.” Her anticipation grew, wondering what stories Constantine had for her today…
… Except, she then saw several police cars with flashing lights parked just outside the building, and her anticipation slowly switched to confusion. ‘Uh-oh… What happened?’ she asked herself. She slowed her approach, noting a trio of people talking in the parking lot, which consisted of two officers and what appeared to be perhaps a co-worker of Constantine’s, but no sign of Constantine himself. She initially couldn’t hear them immediately, being so tall and hearing only tiny, high-pitched gibberish, but as she leaned closer, she was almost certain she heard the phrase “with a bat”, before her shadow covered them, causing them to turn and look up at her in a startled manner.
The cop spoke, trying to sound authoritative, but failing miserably, as Bayusha’s looming and leaning so close to them made him quite nervous. “C… can I help you, ma’am?”
“Excuse me, officer darling,” Bayusha spoke in her booming, thickly accented voice. “What happened here?”
The cop raised a brow. “Err… d-does it concern you?” he asked, as nicely as he could, though deep down he was worried that such a question could be taken the wrong way.
His partner looked at him strangely. “Hey come on,” she said, “It’s just a civilian asking a question!”
“Uh… c… civilian,” said the first cop flatly. “R… right…”
The second cop sighed. “Sorry about him, miss,” she said, “but, we ARE curious why you ask.”
Bayusha, fortunately for the cop, was not that quick to anger. However, she DID start to feel anxious. “Well, darling, I am to be picking up someone who should be waiting out here for me… but… don’t see him, and, well, YOU’RE here…”
The two cops looked at each other, as if they had just put two and two together. “Uh-oh…” they both said.
The giant Brachio, too, started to put two and two together, but hoped she was wrong. “W… why ‘uh-oh’…?” she asked slowly.
The less nervous of the two cops spoke. “This is a crime scene, and… we believe an assault and kidnapping occurred here,” she said. “We, err, have a witness…” She gestured to the co-worker standing behind them.
The co-worker spoke. “W-we saw it on security camera,” he said regrettably. “He was standing just outside, and then some guys in a black limo drove up, got out, and started talking to him. Then they… they…”
“… They…?” Bayusha urged, though something was bottling up in her.
“… They… grabbed him,” the coworker continued, “a-and he fought back, but then one of them knocked him out with a bat, a-and then they took him and drove off.”
Bayusha’s face looked tenser and tenser, making the smaller ones feel more and more nervous. Bayusha asked one more question, hoping for one more chance to debunk what she thought was going on. “… The one they took…” she said softly, but eerily. “Know his name…?”
“U-uh…” the co-worker stammered. “… A… Agent M… Malo… Conny Malo…”
Bayusha’s expression at that moment was hard to describe for any of the three below her. One would expect worry, perhaps panic, at least, that’s what the cops thought. “Now, ma’am, “ said one. “Please don’t worry. We’ve already issued a city-wide search for the vehicle he was last seen-”
“Not fast enough…” Bayusha’s hissed ominously, silencing the two cops, who were both frozen in horror at the Brachio. She wasn’t worried, she wasn’t panicking. No… she was FURIOUS… “I join search, darling…”
It didn’t get much for the cops to note that she wasn’t asking to join the search. She was telling them. “… A-as you wish, m-ma’am,” one cop said. “J-just follow our patrol unit and w-we’ll-”
THOOOOM!!
The patrol unit was now under a gigaton of Brachiosaur foot, leaving the cops speechless. “Not… fast… enough…” Bayusha reiterated, lowering her hand to them. “Get on…”
The cops looked at each other, coming to terms with the fact that they were NOT in charge at this moment. They clambered into Bayusha’s hand. The Brachio then lifted her hand up to her snout and gently slid the cops onto her muzzle, before slowly standing back to her full, grand height, the cops bracing themselves as they were hoisted high. She stomped away towards the small district, intent on finding the black limo that presumably had her precious Constantine.
Meanwhile, one of the cops on her snout radioed in. “All units be advised,” she said. “We’ve gained assistance from a large scale courier. I… uh… recommend staying out of her way…”
Constantine’s eyes twitched and opened as he regained his senses. His vision remained blurry momentarily, but as it cleared up, he could see several unfamiliar lizards standing around him, all of them glaring at him with vicious looks, some angry and some smiling eerily at him, as if they were ready to punch him in the face, as if the bat that had met his face earlier hadn’t already been enough. He tried to move, only to notice that he was tied to a chair.
“Oh look. Sunshine’s awake…” said a cold voice from one of them.
The Compy was aching too much to show any emotions that required any excitement, be it fear or anger. Instead, he simply asked calmly. “W… What’s this about…?”
“What do you THINK it’s about?!” one of the captors asked. “It’s about you, you and those giants you keep helping!”
“We know you’re in co-hoots with them. Everyone saw you riding on that big noisy crest lizard who caused a ruckus last month, and you let her get away with it! You let ALL of them get away with it!”
Constantine gasped slightly. He felt like he should’ve expected some kind of backlash to happen after his and Pomeline’s “best day”, but he wasn’t expecting a word from seemingly the local mafia.
The captors continued. “If you think we’re gonna just stand by and let you give those blasted behemoths a pass while they keep wrecking our city every day, you’ve got another thing coming!”
“You need to be taught a lesson, you little traitor…”
Constantine was indignant deep down, and really wanted to express how shocked he was that these guys were taking him and his job so horribly out of context, in addition to being scared, as he didn’t know what sort of “lesson” these guys had in store for him, but his pounding headache prevented him from being too excited. He could somewhat understand their anger. Still, he couldn’t help but silently note that if this is what these guys were angry with him about, then their choice of kidnapping him was largely detrimental.
… Emphasis on “large”…
Like I said. Uh-oh...
Constantine's been taken hostage by a bunch of thugs who blame him for the giants. Can Bayusha find him in time?
So uh... this came to me too late to be a KaiJune entry, so you know what, let's make it a KaiJuly one! (Is this a thing? It should be a thing.)
Enjoy!
