Kespers are mesothermic, not cold-blooded but still very sensitive to temperature changes. Their core body temperatures can fluxuate and are lower on average than humans. Being close to peers in cold weather gives kespers a metabolic boost greater than that provided by heat alone. Though it's not fully understood how this happens, it is thought to be an evolutionary trait to encourage group cohesion in difficult environments.
