It happens to every one, even guys as well. Trust me, after going hog wild on Thanksgiveing and getting a pudge, we end up have to suck it in as we are mentaly telling our selves, dont act like a dork, dont act like a dork, dont act like a dork. All becuase a girl we like heads our way.
Reminds me of the 50s. Wake up and get pretty to get the paper for the hubby, work to make the house perfect, get pretty to go to the store, make dinner, pop a pill to keep going, get pretty before the hubby comes home, get pretty before bed, do it all again tomorrow.
Thankfully we're largely past that particular unreasonable expectation now, and looking like you've been working hard can be an okay thing, even if it means grungy, and perhaps a sign of someone who doesn't lounge all day every day.

ya' know, where I come from if a gal' looks like she's been doing work that speaks volumes about her character. That she's not a lazy jerk that will leave her boyfriend trying to re-arrange the living room on his own. However that also means said guy will probably be the type to be a stubborn "I'll take care of it, you go relax you deserve it." type.
