References for a trio of characters from a novel I'm writing.
Nico, Laetus, and Prudens are slaves in the Roman Empire during the early second century, on the estate of a wealthy vintner in Campania. The trio, bearing grudges against their cruel owner and afraid of losing their relatively comfortable posts in his household, kill him, and flee, leading them on a journey across the Empire.
Though Laetus has muscle and Prudens smarts, it's the charismatic and handsome Nico whose whims and desires lead the trio. In particular, he preys on the fact that Laetus is smitten with him– he gives Laetus the slightest bits of attention, in exchange for Laetus doing his bidding.
