Here's a hacksaw frame that I've made. It was forged from a piece of plate steel that I had cut a strip from.
The front part of the frame features a forge weld which is called the socket. It accepts the blade holder.
This type of hacksaw frame is referred to as a "Lancashire Pattern" and multiple examples can be seen through image results online.
The wingnut and blade holder were both sawn from a piece of half inch plate with a hacksaw and filed to shape. Most of the work on the wingnut was exclusively done with a saw. Sort of like wood work. It was refined with a rotary file and then finally filed flat with a smooth file.
The handle is made from lacewood and was given a stain made from iron oxide and vinegar.
I'm quite proud of this piece, but I wish I could really have done a better job with the forge weld. The heat began to burn the steel I was working with and sort of thinned it a bit from the high oxidation.
I'd like to give the whole frame a full file finish so it's a silky satin grey, but the scarring near the socket would stand out too much, as well as show pitting that I wouldn't be able to file away with out thinning the spine of frame too much.
