Another pic that shows Tina is good for something other than jumping in mud puddles--did I mention she's a skater too? Hence this (pin-up?) of her posing in the skates she wore in 'Serving Suggestion' (and 'Soft Landing'...aaand 'Stuck Sk8tr' 9_9), but with more casual attire. I chose traditional "quad" skates over Rollerblades for the complexity of the trucks, and that I didn't need a reference for the boots to draw them accurately--quad skate boots all look alike. The pose was to make the most of the oversized wheels on her skates. Now, whether it's actually possible to crouch on the front wheels and skate brakes like Tina is doing is anyone's guess--I just thought it looked cool :)
In the pencil version, the contrast between the complexity of the trucks and the relative simplicity of the character was the compelling part of the pic. Inking it made it less so--I guess everything looks more complex as pencils. I was going to let this pic go with simple cell shading and without a backdrop, but if you've been following my art (and reading the descriptions), you know I have difficulty releasing artwork without backdrops--blame people ranting on the old Yerf forums about people not doing them.
So I did a backdrop. Completely Digitally (yay, Wacom!)--but still taking 6-8 hours. Every graphic element behind Tina here was drawn one shape at a time with a lasso tool and flood-filled after trimming any excess masking. Yes, this includes the hot-dog cart, it's decorations and its umbrella. I chose not to color Tina's line art this time around so that she stood out better.
Brush-inked (yes, even the skate laces and eyelets) pencils on bristol. Color and digital art in Micrografx Picture Publisher 10. 4 layers excluding text (backdrop/ character/ shadows/ highlights), 142 megabytes at original size. Project ID# 241

Here's a pair of tracks I listened to while coloring this: Levels - Avicii, Never Let Me Go - Chris Reece + Jennifer Needles

The wheels don't look that chunky to me. Or maybe my old childhood rollerskates just had REALLY chunky wheels too, lol....all I ever learnt to do in rollerskates was faceplant (or facewall)! XD I don't know if you could actually rest on the front wheels and the stops like that either, but it certainly looks plausible and cool enough for my liking. :)
My only personal wish would've been for Tina to be wearing roller-sandals instead, I think they look awesomecute (even if they've not been in fashion since the 70s, lolz). ^^ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3268815/

I've rolled in those! And yeah, the pose is doable, and actually thats near how some racers started, running on the brakes as at were, then transitioning from there. I could never accomplish much more than holding on to the wall for dear life, and attempting a roll out in the center where the traffic wasn't so heavy. Back in the day at the rink/general hang out/only place in town worth hanging out at.
