That's not me. The only thing here that's mine is Toothless, who I painted in. (It actually says this in the artists' comments as well)

I think it was a good choice for the movie to have him not talk.
However, in the books he originally did talk (in third person, no less-- the storyboard artists reportedly got sick of writing his lines), and I adore the books. Of course he was intentionally pushed as a pretty hard to deal with character in the novels, unlike Movie Toothless, who is basically a teddy bear (at least, compared to his former, if exponentially smaller, self)

Sequel's coming out I think 2013. TV show this fall, Arena Spectacular this summer.
I'm a biiiit leery about a sequel, first off since they really seem to be selling out already ^. Also, Chris Sanders left the project, so it's just Dean DeBlois. I guess that's better than entirely new directors, but I'm pretty sure Chris Sanders, who CREATED giant-ass Toothless, probably knows best on what to do with him.
Then again, Gift of the Night Fury had an entirely different director, and it was still full of awesome.

Said lead animator was responsible for much of toothless' manerisms, largely because he was a recent cat owner, and much of that rubbed off on him. I don't know if someone else could emulate those traits as well.
