MODDED MY SONAS INTO BOMB RUSH CYBERFUNK
so a little more than two months ago I modded my sonas into BRC instead of working on my finals!! it took a WHILE and theres a lot of things that I've learned throughout the process and employed / will employ.
The first model I made was slate. I used Solace as a base model (thx the models resource), fully modelled the face, ears, hair, pants and tail. I learned how to make mirrored textures and properly utilize the texture paint video which I learned from some video like half a year ago. There are some issues with the shirt's front AND back decal taking up like a 50x50 space because it unwrapped weird. (based on that one official GGST shirt that i need so badly). He's definitely got a weird ass color scheme I clobbered together because their fur is already a triadic color scheme so we are not following color theory on this one!!
There was also this absurd bug where the shading is all messed up at least in blender and none of the solutions I found online were it until I was working on Cairn and it turned out it was a single button solution. Getting the tail physics correct was a little hard because to make a BRC character mod you have to set everything up inside a new unity project that has a plugin that lets you easily package a character and send it off to be playable in BRC. Can't test stuff inside BRC itself without recompiling the whole character model lol.
For my first real character model this was fantastic.
Then I worked on Cairn. I modelled way more on this one. IIRC I took the hips and boots of Bel and mishmashed it with the Solace model to create a base for the body and boots. I then modelled the whole head, hair, ears, tail, halo, coat, and halo, and heavily edited the boots to make them giant and chunky (^.^) I definitely got closer to the BRC artstyle on this one, but I still drifted away with it intentionally in some parts, like the eyes. The eyes on Cairn are giant but they look good, while on Slate they're closer to the size of eyes on normal BRC models and it looks SMALL when juxtaposed to the snout. Ingame, sometimes Cairn's tail looks deflated when going too fast which is funny. After modelling the tail, I added subdivisions to every plane on the tail thinking it'd help make the tail look a little smoother but I think it might've made it worse lol. While I've gotten physic bones down, I couldn't implement colliders so tails and the coat dont phase through the body.
This was awesome. Definitely going to make BRC montages soon. I want to make TJ next and publish it.
