Hallucinogenic and psychotropic drugs are indispensable elements of the traditional culture of many peoples of the world. The peoples of Mexico have long used the hallucinogenic cactus peyote (mescal) and psilobicin mushrooms, in South America they chewed coca leaves, in North and Central America they inhaled tobacco smoke, the peoples of Oceania brewed an intoxicating drink from the roots of pepper plants — kava, in Asia they consumed various drugs based on cannabis and poppy, in Central Africa — drinks from the bark cola. Moreover, the consumption of hallucinogens is most often associated with ritual and ceremonial practices and has very ancient historical traditions, confirmed by numerous written sources and finds of archaeologists. ❞
