Weeks after Pete's leg injury, he and Lilith were finally able to rig together a working distress beacon using pieces from both of their wrecked ships. The only down side, however, was that the signal strength isn't strong enough to reach outer space unless they take it to the top of a mountain, where the atmosphere is thinner. Lilith was against Pete going with her on account of his leg still not fully healed yet, but Pete refused to let her go alone. So, sharing the pieces of the distress beacon between them, the two began their ascent up a nearby mountain.
