A good chapter.

I thought so.
Midnight Mirages does a lot.
It's the longest ToZ to date.

My biggest challenge was pacing.
But I think it's adequately managed.

Even though we stay trapped in Nikita's perspective,
the dynamic between her and Gabi is fresh, which maintains audience intrigue.
Locale changes throughout the story also help with the pacing.

Like most of the stories, it's biggest weakspot is world-building.
Specifically the stratification of the city, the politics, the disparity between elites and commoners
and how all the different crime organizations squish together.
All of this would definitely inform context and heighten the character stakes, I will admit.

But I kinda chalk this weak area up to my effort to keep the series character focused and driven.
Plus, there's a lot more story to come which will offer opportunities to explore these aspects naturally.
Rather than bloating these early stories with needless detail.

That's just my insight on this chapter and the processes of creation behind these stories :D

I feel like the current world building is good, from Nikita's perspective. While she does have inside knowledge on some of the military and law enforcement aspects (that readers may not understand, yet) she really wouldn't understand the crime organizations, or probably even the city itself since she's been rather ignorant to the real world, up until now lol.

Ooo, very true!~ For Nikita's perspective, it'd make sense for things to be blurred, vague and undefined.
I guess you also could say we see some of this perspective-influenced narrative crafting in the earlier stories during hers (and Tochi's) drug infused night out~ very blurry lol

But still~ I could touch up more on some aspects of the narrative's world building. Exploration of the society and social stratification of the various layers. But I feel some of that is better suited for Ari's spin-off. :)
