Time for some old art, this time of my very first Pokemon OC, Armon.
Armon was a resident of the Sinnoh region, in the port town of Icebreak (my made-up town west of Snowpoint City). Despite a well-paid job, a house, his daughter, Sara, and his only partner, Rowan the Growlithe, Armon was a deeply depressed and broken man, having never truly moved on from the death of his wife, Martha. Whenever he wasn't working or playing with Sara, Armon usually spent most of his time in his bedroom (more of an office than a proper bedroom, really), looking over the blue gemstone that was once Martha's family heirloom, losing himself in the past...
One day, everything changed the moment the police informed Armon that the man responsible for his wife's death, a man named Geoffrey Maple, was still at large. Later that moonless night, Martha's gemstone suddenly began to glow, awakened from Armon's rage and grief over what he learned, and overwhelmed him with an otherworldly light. Not long after, Armon's body suddenly twisted and painfully reformed, the gemstone's light transforming him into a Darkrai.
He changed back the following morning, leading him to believe the transformation was only a dream, only to transform again the moment the sun set. Later on, Armon learned from a mysterious, ancient Metagross that he only had two months before the change became permanent, and he will never turn human ever again.
After leaving Sara in the care of a neighbor, Armon, accompanied by the strange Metagross who definitely knew more than it was letting on, set out on a quest to find a cure for his 'were-Pokemon' curse, transforming every night due to Darkrai's nature, with each change becoming less painful and more natural the next. On each of these nights, Metagross taught Armon how to wield his new power so he would not be useless should they come across a bad situation.
Due to his training, as well as the journey itself, Armon slowly grew fond of the Pokemon world. Although he had a partner of his own, he never understood the appeal of battling, nor the nature these wonderful creatures thrived in. Despite this newfound love of Pokemon, Armon still planned on changing back into a human. That is, until he committed something terrible related to Geoffrey Maple. What Armon did was so bad, and so against his nature, that it caused him to re-think everything, and go into a silent stupor for multiple nights at a time.
A week before the final change, Armon and his group came across a Cresselia, the only one who may be able to cure him. However, at the last second, Armon refused the chance, having come to a somber decision. He will remain a Darkrai when the time comes, as punishment for the heinous crime he committed...He knew the consequences of such a choice. Darkrai were not looked upon fondly by the public, and are known to live for eternity, as most Legendary Pokemon do. Which meant he will no doubt outlive Sara and Rowan...Armon accepted all of this, thinking of it as a fitting punishment for what he did, and only wants to look after his daughter.
On his last night as a human, Armon returned home to Sara, holding back the final transformation as much as possible so he could tell her what was going to happen once they got back to the house. However, before he could do any of this, a group of thugs attacked them, led by one who witnessed one of Armon's transformations, and wanted to know how he did this.
Without further ado, Armon transformed for one final time, and fought off the thugs and their Pokemon. After driving the thugs away, Armon returned to Sara, miserable and heartbroken when he saw how scared she was of him, and everything that just occurred. However, after taking things slowly and showing Sara her mother's gemstone, his daughter soon realized the floating nightmare creature in front of her was still her Dad, and together father and daughter embraced in one another's arms, weeping under the moonlight.
Despite the bittersweet outcome, the Troven family has been doing well. Armon, while still a depressed, distrusting mope, has found a new job for himself, is still looking after Sara, and is overall much happier now. He's even allowed Sara to have her own Pokemon so she can become a Trainer, though its unknown if she will go on a journey of her own yet.
