he look so cool! Where did he get his scars from?

Its kinda complicated but basically he got the scars in his humanoid form where his cousin killed him, which is the one on his neck, and he had an autopsy done on him which he woke up during it, which is the big Y scar (he died and came back to life cuz lore reasons)

oh damn, that's hardcore! What would be the lore reasons, if you don't mind me asking?

Oh man where do I start
In my lore, dragons can give up their powers to live again as death dragons, but they need to give their powers to someone who is developing in egg or whatnot, normally they can only give them to other dragons because in my world only dragons or people related to them can wield elemental powers.
The death dragons wanted a different option for giving up their powers, rather than only giving them to dragons (which would skew dragon power hierarchy), so they created altered humans called Kaegonni's that have the ability hold the dragons powers, however the powers cannot be "unlocked" unless they die in a traumatic way. (Kaegonni's are so few its basically one family thats why its also a surname)
The reason why they come back isn't 100% known but its assumed its because of the connection they have to death if they were given powers, and the scar of the wound that killed them acts as a sort of anchor keeping their soul in place, no matter how many times they might "die"
Ripley is one of the Kaegonnis who was given powers, specifically he was given powers by a dark dragon, Rip's cousin who is also a Kaegonni, is a magic researcher and she wanted to research how the death magic associated with Kaegonni's work, which is why she killed him.

Ripley isn't originally a dragon, but when he died and unlocked his powers, he gained the ability to shapeshift into one because shapeshifting is also a power dragons have
